Leeds HealthTech ecosystem

The Centre for HealthTech Innovation is a strategic part of an integrated healthtech ecosystem across the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

This ecosystem brings together academic, clinical and commercialisation expertise.

This enables our work to span the full innovation journey from early-stage discovery science through to clinical evaluation, product development, and uptake into the NHS. Together, we aim to help transform Leeds into a world-leader in connected, innovation-driven and challenge-led healthtech.

University of Leeds centres and institutes

Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering

Research in medical technologies, focusing on longer-lasting joint replacements, tissue sparing interventions, and biological scaffolds for tissue engineering. Visit the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering website.

Centre for Computational Imaging and Simulation Technologies in Biomedicine

The Northern Pathology Imaging Co-operative

Leeds Institute for Data Analytics

EPSRC Medical Technologies Innovation and Knowledge Centre

NIHR MedTech Co-operative in Surgical Technologies

NIHR MedTech Leeds In-Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative

NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility

Leeds Clinical Trials Research Unit

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Innovation Pop-Up

The Innovation Pop Up was established in 2021 to provide a front door for innovators to collaborate with Leeds Teaching Hospitals. It is connected to a roughly £1 billion investment in two new hospitals and located in the heart of the planned Leeds Innovation Village.
