What made you want to apply to Leeds, and apply for this course?
“I have embraced the University of Leeds' approach to offering an accessible online course, which is about an applied project that involves working with a disability rights and disabled people's organization they currently support and volunteer with.”
What makes you passionate about your area of study?
“I am mostly passionate about making a difference in the world by investigating the concept of disability as a cultural, political, and social phenomenon.”
What do you think of your course so far?
"I am enjoying this course and I am excited to explore the idea of disability as a social, political, and cultural issue in order to maybe change the world.”
What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course?
“The course, in my opinion, highlights the importance of individual-based interventions for disabled people, such as health, rehabilitative, educational, and job-based services — while also recognising the limitations of these interventions in fostering inclusion and empowerment in a society where people without disabilities predominate.
“It is a multidisciplinary field where the sciences broadly cross it.”
What do you plan to do once you’ve finished your course?
“After completing my postgraduate studies, I aim to work in the creative industries to improve accessibility and positive attitudes towards disability. Or work with disability rights organisations to change legislation to provide more opportunities and possibilities for disabled individuals in the UK, particularly in Scotland.”
What would you say are the main benefits of studying online?
“The fundamental advantage of online learning is the ability to learn in my own surroundings, at my own pace, and at a time that is convenient for me.”
