Module leader for Sustainable Strategies, Leeds University Business School.

“My path toward sustainability was shaped by vivid memories of my childhood. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the scarcity of resources, blackouts, water shortages, and people’s daily struggles.

“These challenges weren’t abstract concepts from scientific papers; they were part of everyday life. We learned to conserve and minimise waste.

“Twenty years ago, I moved to the United States, where abundance was celebrated and consumption encouraged, the pursuit of more seemed like an unspoken creed. It took time, however, for me to realize that this joyous excess came at a cost borne by others.

“The affordability and convenience masked the hidden price, the environmental toll, the exploitation of labour, and the depletion of finite resources. The hidden price after two decades is so big and bold that cannot be ignored.

“It has come home. Extreme weather events, migrations and resourcing issues have risen to the top. Sustainability has ceased to be a distant ideal; it has become woven into our everyday lives.

Sustainability isn’t a luxury; it’s a survival strategy—a commitment to safeguard our planet for us and generations to come.

“As a module leader for sustainable strategies, I aim to convey that sustainability and strategy are no longer isolated silos; they intertwine and coalesce into a powerful force for positive change.

“This parallels the integration of technology, which is no longer merely a tool but an integral part of organisational fabric. Sustainability isn’t a noble badge on your strategy; it’s a strategic compass.”
