Opportunities for students

We work with cultural organisations to create exciting opportunities for students, including volunteering, internships and graduate roles. We help students gain practical experience and build valuable connections within the creative sector.
Cultural activities help build a sense of community and belonging on campus, making our study environment livelier and more interesting. The Cultural Institute organise a variety of arts and cultural events, ensuring there’s always something fun and creative happening around campus.
Opportunities with cultural partners
Through our partnerships with cultural sector organisations, we create opportunities for students such as volunteering roles, part-time internships, and graduate jobs.
Every October, we host the Culture at Leeds fair, which is a chance for students to meet representatives from local arts, music, performance and heritage organisations. This is a fantastic way to meet creative professionals and find out about the cultural scene in Leeds.

We have strong connections with the cultural sector, giving students real-world insights into their studies at Leeds. In partnership with external organisations, we offer opportunities for students to gain practical experience through in-module placements in various fields.
We are also exploring ways for students to gain hands-on learning through campus cultural experiences, such as:
- creative projects
- live briefs

A Year-in-Industry Placement with Bradford City of Culture 2025
Evie Facer-Floate is a BSc Geography student undertaking a year-in-industry placement with Bradford 2025’s engagement team, building on her love of arts and culture and interest in event management.
As a programme assistant, Evie is developing resources to help schools and youth groups engage with Bradford 2025. This opportunity was created through a partnership between the University of Leeds and Bradford 2025 and was advertised exclusively to University of Leeds students via MyCareer.
Evie said: “It’s been great learning about the Bradford city district. It’s an exciting place to work and with everyone being new in the team, you can grow alongside the company. I love arts and culture, so it's a great fit for me.”
She hopes the experience will strengthen her skills in the creative and cultural industries, adding, “everyone is so supportive, it’s all about helping you grow and preparing you for your future career.”
Evie continued “I don’t think I would have had this opportunity without my connection to the University of Leeds, which encouraged me to apply and supported me throughout with the process.
Evie added: “This placement has exceeded my expectations. It’s fast-paced, and I’ve taken on real responsibility, leading projects that you wouldn’t in a typical placement.”
Evie believes learning the day-to-day operations of an office has been one of the most valuable experiences, giving her the confidence to move forward in her career.
