I chose to come to Leeds as it had everything on my wish list: the University helps students to learn from experts; it’s a research-based university; and it’s well-recognised within the UK and the world. I was also interested in the modules on my Masters; the courses were well-designed and I knew that it would help me to upgrade my knowledge since the course related to important skills that we need within the industry.
My experience so far has been great! I made friends, which is so important being an international student. Having the Society fair helped me to join a society in which I met many people and it helped me to adapt to my new life. Thanks to all activities and facilities that the University provides, I can easily spend the whole day here, whether I’m hanging out with friends at Old Bar or studying in my favourite library (Edward Boyle). My highlights would be the online libraries, the societies (PhotoSoc), and the Leeds University Union (LUU).
There were many welcome events which helped so much with the homesickness. You always miss home but having activities to connect with others makes Leeds feels like home. Being given the opportunity to have a second home in another part of the world makes our student experience much better. I’ve also had opportunities to hear from companies within the UK who come to campus and explain their graduate schemes, what it’s like to work there, and share job opportunities.
My academic experience here has been great, because Leeds offers a high standard of education, offering a complete experience with opportunities to get to know others, and to participate in different activities. I like that I can get involved in activities outside of classes, like societies, places to study, places to eat and all the benefits of just being a student, access to multiple online libraries, e.g. Harvard Business Library.
The best thing about my course is the constant challenge to think outside the box. The supply chain industry is based on innovation and my curse is all about researching how we can be more efficient and innovate.
In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends. The LATAM community is a close community, so we plan hiking trips together, visit nearby places like York, Saltaire, Manchester and even Edinburgh. I enjoy attending Latin Parties and activities in the city like Leeds Night Lights, operas and galleries exhibitions.
I love the city! Everything is nearby. You have everything you need here, many supermarket options, many pubs, hospitals near and many outdoor activities. I just love the city I chose; it has all I need.
If you are considering coming to Leeds, apply as early as you can! Moving abroad is a difficult process, but Leeds will help you. You will grow in many ways that you could never imagine, and you will think that one year (if you are doing a Masters) is a lot but trust me it will go faster than you think.
Leeds will be your home and is waiting with arms open to receive you and help you feel comfortable. The University will give you everything you need and prepare you for the bright future awaiting for you.
