My name is Emilie. I am a law student from Denmark. Normally, I study at Aarhus University. However, in connection with my studies, I had had the opportunity to take 20 units (10 ECTS) as electives abroad during the summer. Therefore, I decided to join the Leeds International Summer School (LISS) during the summer of 2022.
LISS offers many different exciting subjects, and there were also some that were relevant to me as a law student. I studied in Leeds for 4 weeks, doing two different subjects.
- The Path to Justice: Criminal Law and Legal Skills
- Conflict Analysis in International Politics: Causes, Negotiation and Resolution
One of the best things about taking subjects at LISS was that we were students from all over the world, so there was plenty of opportunity to get many perspectives and points of view in our teaching. The teaching was exciting and educational.
For me, LISS was more than just school. The LISS program is knitted together in such a way that you also go on trips around Northern England, which was a nice way to travel. In addition, when you live on campus for 4 weeks, it is inevitable to form relationships. I have made friends from all over the world, and it has been a great cultural experience - and maybe even the best thing about joining LISS.
Leeds is a great city to study in. There is a lot of life in the city, and at the same time there are also only a few hours by train to both London, Manchester, York and Edinburgh, which are also worth a visit if you are staying in Leeds.
If you are considering applying to join LISS, I just want to say that I think you should do it. It is a unique experience - and I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to study together with students from all over the world. A program like LISS is not found at all universities!
