Travelling across the globe for the Leeds International Summer School was an unforgettable adventure. It was my first time on a long-haul flight to the UK, and from the moment I arrived, I fell in love with British culture.

Leeds, with its charming, walkable streets and slower pace of life, felt like such a refreshing change from the bustle of Singapore. Some of my favourite moments were the simple ones—like winding down after class by strolling through the city centre with friends, followed by cosy nights cooking together.

Beyond that, the cultural experiences in Leeds were unlike anything I’d experienced before. I embraced the British pub culture, from casual evenings out to pub quizzes that quickly became one of my favourite ways to unwind and bond with others.

Leeds offered so many great spots for fun nights out, but it wasn’t just about the nightlife. LISS gave us the perfect excuse to explore, with excursions to different cities across England, each one bringing me closer to the amazing people I met along the way. Social events were a huge part of the experience—my favourite being the iconic Otley Run, where we all dressed up and tackled a series of bars. For those who prefer a more low-key vibe, there were also options like board game nights, laser tag, and even trips to a trampoline park!

The summer weather made exploring even better, and the program was full of opportunities to meet new people from all over the world. Even in class, we were out and about on field trips, interacting with industry professionals who brought our learning to life. That hands-on experience was invaluable and deepened my appreciation for practical learning. The program offered a wonderful balance of academic enrichment and social activities, allowing us to meet people from around the world, share stories, and create lifelong memories.

Being immersed in British culture, from the simple pleasures of nature to the excitement of pub quizzes, was something I deeply cherished. My month in Leeds gave me more than just academic knowledge—it broadened my horizons, fostered unforgettable friendships, and left me with a newfound appreciation for both study and adventure.

Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. This experience has left me with memories, friendships, and perspectives that made my summer truly unforgettable.
