Our free on-campus and online events will help you find out more about our foundation year courses and full/part-time degrees for adult learners.

You can also join our general sessions, where we’ll cover topics such as student finance, returning to education and support for mature students.

Upcoming events

Adult learner autumn school

Tuesday 17 to Thursday 19 September, 9.30am to 2.30pm

Calling adult learners! Are you thinking about university?

Join us for this free, three-day event at the University of Leeds.

What is it?

An opportunity to:

  • try out informal taster sessions in different subject areas
  • find out more about your options for work and study and the financial support available at university
  • meet other adult learners and explore a university campus.

Who is it for?

Adults who are either:

  • not currently studying and interested in finding out more about their options in education
  • studying at Level 2 or Level 3 (for example, GCSE, NVQ Level 3, etc).

Please note: this event will not be relevant to you if you already have a degree from the UK or overseas, or if you are currently studying for an Access to HE Diploma.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on all three days.

A small number of pre-school childcare places in the University nursery are also available for this event. Please register your interest as soon as possible if you need childcare and we’ll contact you to discuss this.

Applicant drop-in sessions for adult learners

If you have questions about your application or would like some help with applying, you’d be very welcome to attend one of our applicant drop-in sessions for adult learners.

These sessions are only for applicants who are applying to all foundation courses (except the Gateway to Medicine and Social Sciences foundation year courses), all part-time courses and the full-time BA Professional Studies course.

They happen every Tuesday from 2pm to 5pm on Level 11 of the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Building, University of Leeds, LS2 9JT. The last session in 2024 will be on Tuesday 20 August.

There’s no need to book – just pop along and staff from the Lifelong Learning Centre will be available to answer your questions and help you with your application.

We can help you with:

  • completing your part-time application form or your full-time online application via UCAS
  • writing your personal statement
  • applying for student finance
  • preparing for your Alternative Entry test(s) if applicable
  • understanding any other entry conditions you've been asked to meet.

An introduction to student finance

Thinking about going to university as an adult learner but worried about the money part? Want to find out more about the financial support available to you?
 
Join us for a free, online event to learn about:

  • applying for student finance as a mature student
  • loans and grants available from Student Finance England for full-time and part-time degree courses
  • additional financial assistance you could be entitled to
  • support available to mature students at the University of Leeds.

Studying as a mature student

Wednesday 4 September, 10am to 1.30pm

Whether you're thinking about doing a degree for your career or following a lifelong passion, there's no such thing as a ‘typical’ mature student.

Join us for a free, on-campus event where we'll dispel some myths and answer common questions about studying as an adult.

  • find out about our courses and support for adult learners
  • hear from some of our current mature students
  • have the opportunity to explore the University of Leeds campus.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Open Days

If you’re considering applying to Leeds, we’d encourage you to come along to an Undergraduate Open Day

You can learn about our courses, explore our campus, meet staff and students and find out more about what student life is like. 

For mature students (defined as a student over 21 years of age), we’d recommend:

  • attending one of the ‘Studying as a mature student’ talks
  • going along to the Lifelong Learning Centre’s drop-in to find out more about the support on offer for all mature students
  • joining the ‘Student finance for mature students’ talk.
