International Masters Regional Scholarships

£6,000 fee reduction scholarships are available for international students.

These awards are for international students from an eligible country/region applying to study a taught Masters course starting in 2025.

The scholarships are designed to help ease the cost of living, allowing you to focus on your education and achieve your full potential.

By supporting talented individuals from these regions, we aim to empower you to reach your academic and professional goals while fostering a diverse and dynamic learning community.

The International Masters Regional Scholarship will be awarded as a fee waiver in the second semester.

Check the following eligibility criteria:

Eligibility

To be eligible for an International Masters Regional Scholarship you must:

  • be classified as a national from one of the following:
    • Egypt; France; Germany; India; Japan; Mexico; Peru; South Korea; Spain; Taiwan; Thailand; Turkey; United Arab Emirates; United States of America; Vietnam. (If you are domiciled in these regions but not a national, you will not be eligible for this scholarship.)
  • be classified as an international fee-paying student
  • hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a 2025 Masters degree (The Leeds MBA and 100% online courses are not eligible for this scholarship. If you are applying through an International Partner Agreement and are offered more than one Leeds scholarship, you can choose to accept whichever award represents the highest value.)
  • be self-funding or partially funded
  • be registered as a University of Leeds student on 30 January 2026
  • have met all conditions of your Masters offer and have accepted your offer on the application portal. In addition, if applicable, you must have paid a tuition fee deposit of £2,000 by the date specified in your offer letter.

The scholarship can be awarded with any available School or Faculty scholarship, or external funding as long as this does not exceed 100% of your tuition fees. The scholarship cannot be deferred to a future year of entry.

If your country/region is not included, you may still be eligible for one of our other scholarships.

How to apply

You do not need to submit a scholarship application. If you meet the eligibility and award criteria, you will automatically receive the scholarship.

Accepting the scholarship

If you have already been offered a place on one of our courses, you will soon receive an email confirming the award. If you haven’t yet applied, you will be notified of your scholarship award shortly after you receive a course offer.

We encourage you to confirm your interest by accepting the scholarship via the link provided in the scholarship award offer email. You will then receive a confirmation email.

Receiving the scholarship

The scholarship is a tuition fee discount which will be automatically applied if you are registered at the University on 30 January 2026.

As the scholarship is awarded at the beginning of the second semester, we recommend that you pay your tuition fees via an instalment plan.

The scholarship will be deducted from the second instalment of your tuition fees, due in February 2026.

Further guidance on paying your fees is available on our How to pay page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I receive the scholarship as a cash bursary to help with my living costs?

No, the scholarship will be awarded as a tuition fee discount, which will be deducted from the second instalment of your tuition fees due in February 2026.

Can I have confirmation of the scholarship?

We encourage you to respond to the scholarship award email to confirm your interest, which prompts a confirmation email. However, the scholarship is automatically applied for applicants meeting the eligibility and award criteria. No scholarship letter will be issued.

Will the International Masters Regional Scholarship appear on my CAS?

No. The tuition fee discount will be automatically applied if you are registered at the University at the start of the second semester. Therefore, as we cannot guarantee future registration status, the scholarship will not appear on your CAS and you will still be required to show you have the means to pay the full tuition fee when you apply for your visa. We will not update your CAS or issue a new CAS to include the scholarship.

I am studying a Masters of Research (MRes programme). Am I still eligible?

Yes, you will be eligible as long as you are studying a Masters course on the University campus starting in September/October 2025.

What will my tuition fee instalments be?

The tuition fee will remain at the full amount in your application portal and when you register as a student.

We recommend you set up a tuition fee instalment plan to pay 50% before or at registration and 50% at the start of the second semester. If you have been awarded a School or Faculty scholarship, this will be deducted from the total tuition fee before it is split into the instalments. If you have paid a tuition fee deposit this will be deducted from the first instalment.

The International Masters Regional Scholarships tuition fee discount will be automatically applied if you are registered at the University on 30 January 2026, so your second instalment will be £6,000 less than initially arranged.

The second instalment of my tuition fees will be paid by direct debit – do I need to cancel or change this with my bank?

If you have arranged to pay by direct debit the amount will be adjusted by the University before the instalment date in February 2026, you do not need to cancel it or make any changes yourself.

What happens if I’ve already paid my tuition fees in full?

If you have paid your tuition fee in full, the value of the scholarship will be refunded to you in the second semester of study, subject to the eligibility and award criteria.

I am a national from one of the eligible countries/regions, but I currently live in another country/region. Am I eligible?

Yes, you will be eligible if you are a fee payer at the international fee rate and meet the criteria.

I am keen to accept the scholarship, but I only have a conditional offer. Can I still accept it?

Yes, you can accept the scholarship. You must then meet the conditions of your Masters offer, accept your unconditional offer and if applicable, you must have paid a tuition fee deposit of £2,000 by the date specified in your offer letter. You must be registered at the University at the start of the second semester.

If I decline my offer for 2025 entry and reapply for 2026/27, can I defer the International Masters Regional Scholarship?

No, your scholarship offer is only valid for the 2025/26 academic year. If you decide to decline your offer and reapply for 2026/27, you will lose the scholarship and will need to re-apply for any scholarships in the 2026/27 year. Please be aware that scholarship opportunities may vary from year to year.

Can I apply and be awarded other scholarships?

Yes, for programmes eligible for the International Masters Regional Scholarship, tuition fee scholarships can be combined up to but not exceeding 100% of the total course tuition fee. Each scholarship award is calculated and deducted from the total fee independently, regardless of any other scholarship.

If you are applying through an International Partner Agreement and are offered more than one Leeds scholarship, you can choose to accept whichever award represents the highest value.

My country/region is not included in the list of International Masters Regional Scholarships are there any other scholarships I can apply for?

Yes, you may still be eligible to apply for our International Excellence Scholarship.

I have also applied for the International Excellence Scholarship. Does this mean I have not been successful in my application for the International Excellence Scholarship?

No, the scholarships are individually assessed and awarded separately. You will be notified of the outcome of your International Excellence Scholarship application after the closing date.

I have an offer for the MBA, why is it not included in this scholarship provision?

The MBA currently offers a generous scholarship scheme: MBA Excellence Scholarships.

I am a sponsored student. Am I still eligible for the scholarship?

No, the scholarship is only available for students who are self-funded or partially funded by a sponsor or external organisation. Students in receipt of a full tuition fee scholarship from an external organisation are not eligible.
