My research is about how COVID-19 affected travel patterns and ultimately public transport. I'm really excited about it because it's so relevant to the pandemic.
There was an amazing shift to walking and cycling, but also fewer people using public transport. My recommendations are about ways to maintain sustainable transport and get passengers back. They’ll probably be used by Transport for the North and Transport Scotland (suppliers of the data). I want to contribute to the future of transportation.
My institute's reputation and my lecturer’s connections made it easier to get the data and information I needed from transport organisations.
At Masters level you really have to throw yourself into study. Lectures give you the information, but you have to go the extra mile – understand the topic you're studying and how it connects with the real world.
