Leeds alumni connected in Jakarta, Indonesia at a fully booked reunion event.
The event, which took place at the Indonesia Stock Exchange building, gave 131 attendees the opportunity to reconnect with friends, network with fellow Leeds graduates and celebrate shared memories.
Attendees came from across a wide range of professions and class dates creating the perfect environment for ideas sharing. A panel discussion covered topics including the Leeds study experience, the influence Leeds had on the panellists’ careers, and visions for the Indonesia Alumni Association.
As well as having the opportunity to test their Leeds knowledge in a Leeds-based quiz, attendees were able to benefit professionally from the event as attendee Novasari Widyaningsih (MA Film Studies 2023) explained: “This event was both fun and inspiring.
“It was an opportunity to network, share knowledge, and truly advance our careers.”
Credit to the alumni organisers
The event was co-ordinated by a team of alumni volunteers, whose hard work helped to ensure things ran smoothly.
Organisers communicated key details to attendees through the Indonesia alumni WhatsApp group, which now has over 202 members. Managed by local alumni for local alumni, Indonesian nationals are invited to join the WhatsApp group.
They secured prestigious alumni speakers for the panel discussion, including Andianto Hidayat (MSc Tribology & Surface Engineering 1998), Secretary to Board of Commissioners at Pertamina Lubricants, and Willy Saelan (MA Human Resources Management 1997), Human Resources Director Unilever Indonesia.
“It was truly an amazing event, exceptionally well organized,” said Novasari. “As well as support from the University, the organisers secured sponsors from respected partners including IDX Indonesia Stock Exchange, Unilever and Pertamina.
“The venue was prestigious, located in the heart of Jakarta’s capital, and the overall hospitality made everything incredibly convenient. A big shoutout to the organizing team.”
A melting pot of ideas: The power of an alumni association
Attendees were also able to take the opportunity to explore how the alumni association can have greater impact, and how the community can continue to grow.
“What a fantastic melting pot of ideas,” Novasari said. “We were able to focus on how these events can support not only our careers but also other aspects of life, such as well-being.
“It’s exciting to think about hosting regular meetups for hobbies and sports, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation.
“I truly believe this alumni association can bring great value—not only to individuals but to collective growth, including supporting the University as an institution.”
The event was organised by Aditya Luhut Sibarani (MSc Transport Planning 2020), Adriel Forialdi (Mechanical Engineering 2020), Bayu Laksono Pamungkas (MSc Petroleum Production Engineering 2018), Christopher Ginting (MA International Business Law 2020), Niken Kinanti Suryanto (MSc International Marketing Management 2016), Rian Sutjipto (MSc Transport Planning 2018), Annisa Hasbi (MSc Sustainability and Business 2017), Triana Hadiprawoto (MSc International Marketing 2015, PhD 2021) and Firdha Shafira (MSc Transport Planning 2020).
