The University was one of only two institutions reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) earlier this year to receive a commendation for its enhancement of the student learning experience.
The QAA reviews higher education institutions every six years. Institutional Reviews involve a thorough evaluation of an institution's educational provision and result in a published report that makes judgements and recommendations about academic standards and quality, as well as highlighting good practice.
As we might have expected, the review confirmed that the University meets UK expectations for academic standards and the quality of learning opportunities. But the review also commends us for our 'approach to the enhancement of provision, in line with [our] aspiration to create a distinctive Leeds graduate', and it highlights the following examples of good practice:
- the initiatives which contribute to the University's widening participation strategy
- the policies and procedures for the admission of students to the University
- the strategy to improve students' employability and career options through Leeds for Life and its implementation.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Education, Professor Vivien Jones, says: “It’s great to have this external endorsement of the many good things we’re doing at Leeds – a well-deserved reflection of the University’s commitment to student education and the dedication of all those involved.”
This review method was launched in 2011-12, replacing the Institutional Audit method previously used by QAA. (The University was last audited under the old method in 2008.)
