World famous Chinese concert pianist, Lang Lang, was welcomed to the 17th Leeds International Piano Competition yesterday by Dame Fanny Waterman.
Lang Lang, who is the newly appointed Global Ambassador for ‘The Leeds’ watched the semi finals of the Competition in the Great Hall at the University of Leeds.
Over 270 entries were submitted for this year’s Competition from which 59 pianists from over 20 countries were selected to compete in front of a distinguished international jury, chaired by Dame Fanny Waterman. The finals will take place in Leeds Town Hall on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 September.
Dame Fanny Waterman and Lang Lang will feature in a six part BBC Four documentary about the Leeds International Piano Competition presented by Suzy Klein as part of the Piano Season on the BBC. The documentaries will be shown on consecutive Friday evenings from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, starting Friday 21 September.
