(William Thomas, a Sustainable Business Leadership MSc graduate, is shown on screen.)

William: My name is William Thomas. I quit corporate life about 10 years ago and decided to do more living, I guess, personal living and have taken up cycling all over the world and hiking. I still serve on a board, an investment committee, so I'm still active in the business community, but it's not full time.

(The animation of the laptop screen reappears on the screen, showing the question ‘why Leeds?’ being typed into a search bar. William then reappears on screen)

William: The UK has a very high standard of education, that's where I wanted to focus on, so I looked at a number of different universities who are offering similar programmes.  Not many of them allowed for part time and Leeds spoke to me because it was about business leadership and sustainability.  And I think that approach to business leadership really helped me because that's exactly how I intend on using the programme to lead.

(The animation of the laptop screen reappears on the screen, showing the question ‘Did you find the course flexible?’ being typed into a search bar. William then reappears on screen)

William: The online study really fit my lifestyle. So over two years to commit to the timetable required, it worked perfectly allowing me still to handle my other business commitments, do my traveling, and then obtain a Masters. So it all converged in a very nice way for me.

(The animation of the laptop screen reappears on the screen, showing the question ‘How did you find the teaching’ being typed into a search bar. William then reappears on screen)

William: The materials studied, they flowed very nicely. They were clearly communicated. There was a logical progression in each of the units that we're building towards, you know, the complete knowledge of that unit. I really gave those a good rating, the way they were organized and communicated.

(The animation of the laptop screen reappears on the screen, showing the question ‘What were your highlights?’ being typed into a search bar. William then reappears on screen)

William: The aspects that I see being the most meaningful to me, essentially, is governance, policy, which was entirely new to me, but understanding the role that it plays and how you can adjust,  through various tools and marketplace tools, command and control tools. That was extremely helpful to me because that was new learning.

I pride myself as being a good business strategist.  But developing a strategy around sustainability was entirely new, and I enjoyed it because I'm familiar with strategy, but I never put the sustainability icing on those cakes along the way, which I'm doing now.

(The video ends showing the animation of the laptop being closed. The screen shows the University of Leeds logo.)
