Sociological Imaginations privacy notice

Find out what data we collect, why we collect it and how long we keep it for, when you take part in the Sociological Imaginations programme.

To organise events and activities:

We ask for you for your teacher’s contact details and any access or dietary requirements that you have. This is so that we can organise activities and support you to take part. We will keep this data until the end of the academic year.

Monitoring the impact of the project to improve what we offer:

We ask for your name, date of birth, postcode and school to monitor which of our activities you take part in and whether you apply to one of the courses at the University of Leeds. This helps us to understand the impact the programme has on the choices you make and what we can do to improve it for future participants. We will keep this information for up to three years and then delete it.

We also ask for data that will give you an individual code, so that we can match your answers across the surveys you complete.

You will not be identified using this data, we don’t need to know who you are, but do need to be able to connect your answers to each survey to confirm they come from the same individual.

Data we will ask for for the code will be:

  • Number of letters in first name
  • Birth month
  • First three letters in surname
  • Last letter of first name.

We use this information to understand the impact the Sociological Imaginations project is having, compare different groups taking part, and to make improvements to it. Information is collected through our student pre- and post-programme questionnaires.

This data will be anonymised at the end of the following academic year.

Anonymous data we collect

We will ask you for your ethnicity, gender and whether you are disabled, but this will be on an anonymous form so you will not be identifiable. You do not have to fill the form out if you do not want to.
